I mentioned in my last post where I shared a bunch of content ideas that I would let you know how I went. I’ve gotta be honest with you all: posting daily was too much, fam.
It’s not that I ran out steam (although the holidays definitely threw a spanner in the works), it was more I felt I wasn’t getting as much satisfaction from it. It’s hard going from my massive work accounts to this litty baby and seeing like 15 likes on a post I put a bunch of effort into.
I still referenced the content planner for some ideas here and there, but after the Easter/ANZAC break I was nowhere as strict on the post daily rule and just kind of did what I wanted instead of following the plan. In the end I totalled 10 posts , 11 reels and 17 stories (something I struggle with).
Here are the results:

Don’t let all that green fool you, folks. There was a definite lull and I am putting this growth down to the change in strategy.
So what was the change?
Reels. It’s not so much that I changed the mix of content between carousels and reels (and it certainly wasn’t daily reels like March, mind you), but rather I switched from unique ideas to quick and dirty reels where I followed tutorials with trending audio and random pictures from my camera roll.
Those types of reels outperformed almost everything else I did. Oof.

Take aways + plan for May
The main takeaway from April was that posting daily is not really sustainable for me and it’s a tiny bit disheartening to learn that my own spin on reels got me nowhere. However, I did learn some great lessons about the timing on when to get content out and I think I’ve made some positive progress refining the copy that works for each type of content.
Reels – basically just a sentence and half a dozen hashtags
Photos – write an absolute novel. No seriously, that word count should be massive. Think of it like a micro blog. Hashtags, well I’m not so sure what to do about them after reading this post by Hootsuite.
I also need to mention that I’ve started interacting with some pretty cool people since starting this experiment and that is ultimately what this account is about.
So moving into May I don’t think I’ll change too much on the posting frequency and style on the main feed, but instead try to post more story content. I feel like that’s a whole other beast I need to research and learn about so watch this space!
